Another Successful Tournament For GT Sport
The members of Team Tubbs demonstrated their extraordinary skill, effort and dedication to TaeKwonDo recently at the 28th Annual Ft. Worth International Taekwondo Championships. The tournament, which was held Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Fort Worth, TX, resulted in the following awards:

Three Win Spots On 2009 AAU Taekwondo National Team
GT Sport Taekwondo is pleased to announce that Selina Tubbs, Anees Hasnain and Kasey Mallard have been named members of the 2009 AAU Taekwondo National Team after recently competing in the AAU Taekwondo Team Trials. Tubbs was named to the Junior Team after winning the Female Feather (101.3-107.8) division. Hasnain won the Female Fin (-103.5) division and Mallard took top honors in the Female Feather (121.1-129.8) division, earning them both a spot on the Senior Team. All three ladies were also members of 2008's National Team. Joseph Gjonaj, Isabel Gjonaj, Summer Suhwail and Jennifer Lebron had also qualified for the competition, which was held September 5-7, 2008 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Congratulations to all our outstanding athletes!

Team Tubbs Keeps Rolling at Texas Cup International
Twenty seven members of Team Tubbs competed before an enthusiastic crowd at the annual Texas Cup International, which was held on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas. Team GT Scores Big at AAU Nationals
Team GT made quite a showing at the recent 2008 AAU TaeKwonDo National Championships, bringing home an impressive 8 Gold, 6 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals from the competition. The event, which was held June 30 - July 5, 2008 at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, annually draws over 1500 athletes from around the United States. It's 64 Medals for GT Sport at AAU Qualifier
Fifty-one GT Sport athletes who competed in the AAU TaeKwonDo Southwestern Texas District Qualifier on May 10th qualified for this summer's 2008 AAU Taekwondo National Championships. Our athletes brought home an impressive 64 medals - 27 Gold, 16 Silver and 21 Bronze - from the event. The qualifier, which was held at North McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas, was one of 40 qualifiers that will be conducted across the country during the 2008 competition year. The 2008 AAU Taekwondo National Championships will be held June 30 - July 5 at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI. Coppersmith-Tubbs Wins First U.S. Junior World Title Since 2000
GT Sport's own Selina Coppersmith-Tubbs became the first American to win a junior world title since 2000 when she captured the female flyweight gold medal on May 8th at the 7th World Junior Championships in Izmir, Turkey. The five-day event included 749 athletes from a record 84 countries.

Coppersmith-Tubbs won five consecutive matches to claim the flyweight gold medal. She defeated Indonesia (7-0), Belgium (3-2), The Netherlands (7-0), Canada (1-0) and Croatia's Stela Simunic in the final by a score of (4-3). Canada's Victoria Chong and Thailand's Thitichaya Detkaeo were the bronze medalists in the women's flyweight class.

Two Golds for GT Sport at USAT Qualifier

Junior Worlds
Anees Hasnain and Carlos Navarro both won gold at the USAT Qualifier, which was held April 19-20 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Austin Campbell and Helen Chu also turned in fine performances at the event. Congratulations to all our athletes!

Selina Tubbs Named to U.S. Junior World Team
The 20-member U.S. Junior World Team was named April 4th following competition in the World Junior Team Trials at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, IA. Seventy-eight athletes battled it out in the round robin format.
Congratulations to GT Sport's Selina Tubbs for making the U.S Junior National Team (flyweight division). She will be heading to Izmir, Turkey for the 7th World Junior Championships next month.

GT Sport Team Wins Four Medals at U.S. Open
Four athletes from GT Sport were awarded medals at the 2008 U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships held February 8-10, 2008. Mr. Joe Gjonaj, representing Albania, won the Gold in the Senior division. In the 11-13 year old division, Carlos Navarro won gold, Jose Torres won silver, and Muthana Nafal won bronze in their respective weight classes. The event, which was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana annually attracts participants from throughout the world.

Hasnain One Step Closer to Olympic Dream
GT Sport's own Anees Hasnain won the fly weight division at the Olympic qualifying event in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 26, 2008. Anees, who was coached by GT Sport Master and AAU National Coach Greg Tubbs, defeated Mara Perscheid 6-4 and Alexis Martinez 7-4 in the elimination rounds, and then went on to defeat Martinez once again in the finals 5-4.

By virtue of her victory, Anees (age 16) will meet Charlotte Craig (age 17)
in the women's Olympic flyweight division (not exceeding 107.8 lbs/49 kg) in Des Moines, Iowa on April 5, 2008 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium to decide who will represent the United States at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Congratulations Anees and best of luck in April!

Tubbs and Hasnain One Step Closer to Junior World Championships
Selina Tubbs and Anees Hasnain have taken the first step in landing a spot on the 2008 U.S Taekwondo Junior National Team by qualifying in their divisions at the World Junior Championships Open, January 5-6 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

The girls will head to Des Moines, IA on April 4-5 along with 78 other athletes to compete for one of 20 spots on the U.S Junior Team that will compete at the 2008 Junior World Taekwondo Championship in Izmir, Turkey, May 8-11.
